Plant a Tree as a Gift, a beginning

I got the idea for Trees for a Change back in 2006 when I read that one of the best things you can do for the planet is to plant a tree. The need for forest restoration had never been greater since that year set records for wildfires in the U.S. I had always loved giving unique gifts, so I decided to start my own little tree gift company in 2007.

I named the company Trees for a Change because I wanted to change the way we think about gift giving- I wanted to help folks think of giving a gift as an opportunity to make a difference.

Plant a Tree in Someone's Name, a Unique Idea

I was a full-time teacher back then, so I got started by working over the summer, at night and on the weekends. Most of my loved ones were encouraging, but secretly doubted Trees for a Change would turn into much of anything since I was trying to start a tree dedication service-- something most people had never heard of and no one was Googling.

Gaining Traction- Tree Gifts for all occasions, Memorials and Pets

It took 9 years, but I eventually got things off the ground enough to devote myself to Trees full time. My childhood dream of being my own boss lady had finally come true.

Many years and thousands of trees planted later, I've learned that trees unite us in a special way- almost everyone appreciates and respects trees, no matter their background.

Our tree count is approaching 200,000 and I feel full of gratitude. I'm grateful for all the stories I hear about how meaningful this gift is, for the relationships I've built, and for the love and support I've received along the way.

More than anything, I am grateful for all the people who believe in what we do, who believe in the power of thoughtful gift giving.
