The trees for our pet sympathy cards are planted in U.S. National Forests that are recovering from wildfires. We partner with the U.S. Forest Service to choose areas most in need. Although we can’t offer location options, our current planting site is Sequoia National Forest—a meaningful place to honor a pet’s memory because the trees will bring new life to an ailing forest area. Every sympathy card for loss of pet supports forest restoration and healing.
How can pet sympathy card trees be tracked?
Using the "Find Trees" tool in the top menu bar on our website, gift recipients can search by name or order date to access maps, baby tree photos, and forest information. This feature adds heartfelt meaning to your dog sympathy card or sympathy card for pet.
When will the trees for a pet sympathy card be planted?
At the start of each calendar year, we estimate how many trees we’ll need for dedications for pets and people, then the Forest Service plants them in early summer. We switch to a new forest location only after all the previous year's trees have been matched with gifts. This approach means recipients won’t have to wait until the following summer for updates. Every Trees for a Change gift is backed by an actual tree growing in a dedicated forest location.
Will I get updates for the tree associated with the Pet Sympathy Card?
Yes—tree update emails are sent automatically to those who send our pet sympathy cards. These updates will include the latest photos of our planting locations, as well as updated forest photos when available. (We strive to do forest visits every 5–10 years to take growth update photos.) You can unsubscribe from these updates at any time.
Can the pet sympathy card trees be visited?
Absolutely! The sympathy card for loss of a pet includes information about how to visit the forest where the tree was planted. While we can't provide gps coordinates to individual trees because we plant many trees at a time to regrow large forest areas, families can travel to the planting area using our maps and directions.
