Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the pet sympathy gift trees planted ? Can I choose the location?
We work with the U.S. Forest Service to plant the pet trees in National Forests recovering from wildfires. Our pet sympathy gifts are designed to honor beloved animals while helping nature heal. We plant in areas where the trees are needed the most, so we can't offer choice in location. Our current planting site is in a fire destroyed part of Sequoia National Forest where each tree brings new lift to the forest, making it an extra thoughtful and meaningful gift for someone who lost a pet.
How can someone track the pet sympathy gift trees?
You can track trees using the “Find Trees” feature on our website in the top menu bar. Just enter the pet’s name or search under the order date to access forest details, planting maps, baby tree photos, and the option to receive updates. This makes it easy to give a gift for someone who lost a pet that they can revisit and remember.
Can I receive updates on the trees I plant for pet sympathy gifts?
When you order a pet sympath tree gift, we’ll automatically send you a tree updates. These updates include baby tree photos and new photos taken during future visits to the forest (about every 5–10 years). You’re welcome to unsubscribe at any time.
Can trees planted as a gift for someone who lost a pet be visited?
Yes, they can. Each gift for dog passing or other pet loss comes with details about the forest where the trees are planted and how to visit. Families often find comfort in seeing where their pet's memorial trees are growing and contributing life to the forest and her critters. Because we plant many trees at a time to restore large areas of forest, we can’t offer specific tree coordinates, but directions and coordinates to the general planting area are available.
When will the pet sympathy gift trees be planted?
Each year, we estimate the total number of trees we’ll need and arrange for them to be planted by the Forest Service. The trees are usually planted in early summer—an ideal time for young trees to thrive. Once all trees for that year have been dedicated, we shift the planting project to a new forest location. This schedule allows recipients who get their pet memorial tree gift later in the year to still receive timely information about their trees. You can be confident that every tree given through Trees for a Change is accounted for.

Our personalized pet memorial gifts do more than just commemorate a beloved pet - they create new life.
